What is Therapeutic Yoga

Injuries, diseases and emotional disorders are often related to a fundamental disconnection with our own innate sense of wholeness and natural ability to heal ourselves. Yoga is an ancient science offering practical yet powerful ways to help us reconnect with and become centered in our essential state of health and happiness.

Therapeutic Yoga Sessions utilize traditional yoga practices such as asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and yogic thought. Bodywork, energy work and movement therapy are also included to support health and healing on all levels. Therapeutic Yoga Sessions emphasize being an active participant on one's own journey towards physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

Therapeutic Yoga Sessions offer healing support for:

  • Physical injuries
  • Emotional Disorders (Depression, Anxiety, etc)
  • Disease (Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Chrohn's, MS, Fibromyalgia, etc.)
  • Chronic Pain
  • Alignment and structural issues
  • Body Image Disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia)
  • Stress

Amy has therapeutic experience with a wide variety of health conditions including MS, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, anorexia, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia, bulimia, anxiety and panic attacks, fibroids, scoliosis, tendonitis, spinal injuries, torn muscles and ligaments, rheumatoid arthritis and migraines.

What is a Therapeutic Yoga Session like?

A Therapeutic Yoga Session includes an initial consultation with Amy in order to gain a clear understanding of the client's health issues and establish a personal intention for the session. Amy then facilitates a variety of ways to meet the client's health needs and support their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing on all levels of being. Practices may include asana (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing practices) and meditation. Yogic philosophy may be shared to deepen the understanding of the body-mind connection. Additionally, Amy may incorporate bodywork such as hands-on healing techniques, energy work or somatic movement therapy in order to effectively and efficiently impact the healing process. Personalized home programs may be developed to further support the client on their healing journey.

Amy Patee is a Certified Yoga Teacher, Global Somatics™ Practitioner, a Reiki II and Aspects™ Energy Worker, a Registered Movement Therapist and a Thai Yoga Massage Bodyworker. She has additional training and/or experience with Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Massage Therapy, Continuum Movement, Body-Mind Centering®, Trager®, UTUE-Universal Truth Ultimate Education and many other body-mind modalities affording her a comprehensive understanding of the body and healing.
