I took a yoga class the other day and about half way through class the flood-gates opened. Idea after idea, plans, details, answers, ahh-yes, answers galore came rushing in.
(Note to self: have a notebook and pen beside my yoga mat to record the flurry of inspiration as it flows to me when I practice.)
We’re not usually aware of how much we think, but it’s a lot. Many of our thoughts express as “in the moment” questions. We wonder what the best route is to take to a friend’s house, or what to make for dinner, or whether or not we should buy the pink or the blue sweater. As soon as we think the question, the answer manifests. This is intuition in action.
Intuition is our ability to know, in any given moment, what our truth is.
Which way do we want to go, what food do we want to eat, what color of shirt do we choose to wear, who do we hang out with, what place do we want to work at . . . the list goes on and on.
We are intuitive beings by nature. But sometimes when we ask a question we are left with a feeling of confusion rather than clarity about what the answer is. In these situations our monkey minds are most likely the culprit.
Let me help you understand why this is. When you engage in conversation with someone there’s an exchange of give and take (hopefully). You ask a question and then stop speaking to create the quiet space in which the other person is given the opportunity to answer you.
Our intuition works in a similar way. Every answer we seek is made available to us as soon as we ask it. But, if we think the question and then just keep on thinking there is no silent pause in which we can listen to the answer as it floods in. This does not mean the answer goes away; instead it is stored in our field of energy waiting for that momentary pause in your thinking so it can make itself known to you.
The next time you have a question that you are struggling to know the answer to, get quiet. Consciously open yourself up into a receptive state of being. Listen.
How do you do this you might wonder? Meditate, do some yoga, take a walk outside and get out of your head.
We think habitually. Make it a habit to quiet your mind as well. In doing so you’ll experience a state of nothingness in which all things arise out of. Heck, maybe the floodgates will open for you and you’ll realize there is a backlog of answers that have been waiting ever so patiently for their time to shine.
If you want to develop your intuition, join me in my Spark Your Intuition Workshop Series. On Saturday November 19th you'll learn The Basics, on December 1st you'll learn about the Wise Heart, and on December 29th you'll learn about your Instinctual Gut. These workshops are deeply transforming. In addition to participating in reflective journaling, powerful energy clearing techniques and yogic practices, you'll walk away with new tools to apply in your day-to-day life. Now more than ever we all need to be aligned with our intuition so we can begin to live in right relationship with our soul, each other, and the planet.
